Portland Food List (3 day visit)
I was asked to put together a food list for a friend coming to town for 3 days. Here are my top recommendations for experiencing the Portland food scene in a short amount of time.
From visitors to locals alike, please remember to be courteous and kind to our service workers. Wear a mask, tip generously.
Coffee / tea
NEVER Coffee- both downtown / Belmont locations are cool. Funky local shop that features artwork and seasonal drinks. @neverlab
Cloudforest - hot cocoa pop up w/ aesthetic art installation. Best hot chocolate you’ll have. @cloudforest
Deadstock Coffee- Black owned coffee shop that is sneaker themed. Order a mocha and ask to pick your shoe stencil design on top. @deadstockcoffee
Brunch/ breakfast
Proud Mary- Australian style brunch. The hash in hand burrito is INSANITY @proudmaryusa
Pie Spot- house made English muffins with sausage or bacon, eggs and sauce. Top breakfast sandwich in Portland @piespotpdx
Fried Egg Im in Love - Portland classic breakfast. Get the “smells like protein spirit” Sandwich, add avocado and aardvark aioli. Go to the Hawthorne location so you can get the hash bites. @friedegglove
Lunch
Bamboo Sushi- sustainable sushi spot. The crispy rice and green machine roll are both insanely good. @bamboosushi
Hat Yai- Get the fried chicken, roti and curry. Southern Thai street food. My fav savory lunch in pdx. @hatyaipdx
XLB- Chinese food. The Shanghai noodles are stupid good. The popcorn chicken and bao are also solid @xlbpdx
Dinner
EEM- Texas smoked meats meet Thai food for a match made in heaven. Cool outdoor pods, one of the more unique and popular restaurants in pdx. Must order dish: white curry with brisket @eempdx
Marukin- best spot for ramen in the city. Other location is in Japan. @marukinramen
Yalla - In an old portland neighborhood. Mediterranean food meets smokehouse. Cool outdoor pods, laid back vibe and excellent food. Must order: hummus w/ burnt ends, friend chicken and short ribs if you’re hungry. @yallapdx
Laurelhurst market- fancy dinner, butcher shop that has a steakhouse. The ribeye is insane and so are the fries and brussels sprouts. Great big outdoor deck. Call ahead for reservation. @laurelhurstmarket
Drinks/ outdoor bar
Someday- cute outdoor bar in a back alleyway with food carts. Get a cocktail and order food from the cart- Ruthies (funeral potatoes are the move) @somedaypdx @ruthiespdx
