The Best 5 Donut Shops in Portland *updated*
Treat
210 W Evergreen blvd #600 Vancouver, wa 98660
Even those these technically are across the river in Washington, I’m adding them to the list because they’re still in the Portland Metro area. Treat is an adorable sweets shop known for their ice cream and adorable pink branding. In the Fall they bring back their coveted donuts that are available for pre-order in COVID times.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT TREAT
It’s hard to find a fluffy filled donut like these ^ I typically drive to Seattle to General Porpoise to get this style of donut, and I’m happy to find a new and equal alternative just 12 minutes north of Portland.
The dough is savory, light, airy and delightful. The fillings are out of this world. My favorite was the vanilla bean, with the Nutella as a close second.
Pips Original Donuts
4759 NE Fremont St, Portland, OR 97213
This is a cute little shop that is in the Fremont Neighborhood that specializes in fried-to-order mini-donuts, chai & espresso drinks. The tiny, hot donuts with melty, gooey delicious toppings (check out the Meyer lemon pear jam bursting from the middle on their seasonal donut.) They also offer a ton of interesting chai tea. You can even get a chai flight. My favorite is the Japanese Garden, it’s half matcha, half lavender chai (above photo).
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT PIPS
Their donuts are unique. A hot, mini donut is a special, and dare I say spiritual experience.
They are all about community. The owners are constantly promoting the #communitynotcompetition hashtag and the place has a really homey, community feel.
You get a free dozen donuts for your birthday (within 7 days.)
I love the eclectic decor and outside the shop, they have a cool mural that people love to take photos with.
COCO DONUTS
6 locations- view list here
With the lavender glaze donut paired with their cortado, Coco Donuts elevates the simple donuts we’re used to. Most of their selection sticks to the classic donuts we know and love- maple bars, fritters, cake donuts, old fashioned etc…
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT COCO DONUTS
Multiple Locations makes it accessible all over the city.
They roast their coffee in-house, and it is extremely good, especially paired with donuts.
Their speciality donut, the lavender glaze is subtle and AMAZING.
The Williams + PSU locations are extremely photogenic which makes for a great photo opp.
DOE DONUTS
4110 NE Sandy Blvd. Portland, OR 97212
This shop in outer NE Portland was my new find when creating list and boy was I impressed! ALL donuts are handcrafted and VEGAN and there are so many flavors to choose from.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT DOE DONUTS
They’re vegan, and you can’t tell the difference. Their flavors are spot on, and the donut dough is fluffy, airy and SO good.
They’re gourmet. The assortment is wide, from edible flowers + vanilla bean (above) to jalapeño popper donuts, the donut flavor options are playful and fun.
The donuts themselves are beautiful and photograph really nicely.
Their logo has a cute little deer poking her head out of a donut hole and it’s absolutely adorable.
BLUE STAR DONUTS
8 locations- view list here
These are coined as “donuts for grownups” as their soft and fluffy brioche is often topped with refined flavors such as blueberry-bourbon-basil and Cointreau crème brûlee. Their bakery space has limited seating, and the popular flavors often sell out so if you have your heart set on a specific donut, get there early.
WHY I LOVE BLUE STAR DONUTS
Locations all over Portland and beyond (shoutout SoCal) which makes it easy to find a bakery anywhere in the city
Their bakery is bright, clean and simple. The donuts speak for themselves.
Blue Star is always pushing the boundaries for innovative pastry creations. My favorite is the passionfruit cocoa nib with cayenne.
They have Vegan options!
I love their murals, and cute signs in the shop. Great photo opportunities.
